History

Corenso has expanded rapidly and currently operates three coreboard mills and 15 core plants world-wide. The steps we have taken to reach the current position as one of the leading core and coreboard producers are described below.

2008

Green-field core plant in Tychy, Poland started up in December 2008.

Coreboard mill at Varkaus, Finland was permanently shut down in December 2008 as part of Stora Enso restructuring measures.

Coreboard production on a rebuilt BM12 in Wisconsin Rapids, US started in April 2008.

2007

Greenfield core plant in Foshan, Guangdong province started up in April 2008

2006

Acquisition of a core manufacturing company Foshan Huaxin Packaging Co., Ltd. in Foshan, Guangdong province, China.

2004

Acquisition of the German core producer Mertens GmbH & Co. KG in Jülich.

2003

Increase of shareholding in Mandriladora Alpesa S.L. from 14% to 50%.

2002

Acquisition of core plants in Bäcke Emballage AB in Bäckefors and Mohed Emballage AB in Söderhamn, Sweden (ex. Mustad Converting AB). Corenso (UK) Ltd combines its two plants in Sandbach and Westhoughton into one unit in Bolton.

2001

Acquisition of BPB Paperboard Ltd's division BPB Centacor. Transaction covered three core plants, which are located in England at Newcastle, Westhoughton and Maidstone.
Acquisition of Rollpack Ltd. core company including plants in Sandbach and Cheshire, UK.

Joint venture with Hangzhou Huasu Industry Co. resulting in majority shareholding of a core plant in Hangzhou, near Shanghai, China.
Ecogas plant in Varkaus, Finland was built to enable total recycling of liquid packages.

2000

Acquisition of 14% of Mandriladora Alpesa S.L., core plants in Valencia and Cordoba, Spain.

Acquisition of ES & ES Verpakkingen B.V., Edam core plant, the Netherlands.

Acquisition of Van Leer Svenska AB, Säffle core plant, Sweden.

Ownership of board mill and core plant in Wisconsin Rapids, USA through Stora Enso's acquisition of Consolidated Papers Inc.

1999

Acquisition of 72% of Mandriladora Tolosana S.A., core plant, Spain.

1997

Full ownership of ex. Board Packaging (UK) Ltd core plant in Milton Keynes, UK. Corenso (UK) Ltd was founded.
Acquisition of 67% of Elfes GmbH & Co., Krefeld core plant, Germany.

1996

Recycling plant in Varkaus was built.

1994

Acquisition of 49% of Abzac Iberica S.A., Sant Andreau de la Barca core plant, Spain.
Acquisition of Porin Hylsy Oy, Pori core plant, Finland.

1992

Corenso United Oy Ltd was established. In the first stage Corenso included:
